Thuwal, Saudi Arabia – Four innovative projects have been named winners in the latest Seed Fund round at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). The awards are co-sponsored by Citibank.
The winners were announced at a Gala dinner at the Academic Campus, Thuwal on Wednesday March 14, 2012. They were on hand to discuss their individual products and innovations at the event.
The KAUST Seed Fund Program is a product development funding mechanism that can take promising ideas further toward commercialization, and ultimately lead to the formation of a new business. The Seed Fund is part of the New Ventures group.
Congratulating the winners, University President, Professor Choon Fong Shih said: "Our Seed Fund Program is a vital component of KAUST's mission to catalyze Economic Development in the Kingdom – reflecting our founder King Abdullah's vision for KAUST."

Guests in attendance at the Gala dinner consisted of University staff, faculty, senior leadership, local business entrepreneurs and representatives from KAUST Industry Collaboration Program (KICP).
Our project "The Entrepreneur's Ship" has started! While still sitting in Switzerland and planning the details of the journey, we have already started connecting with outstanding entrepreneurship centers all around the world. We have travelled to various countries to actively work as entrepreneurship coaches (see details in the menu item "Impact Stories").
In the next 12-18 months, we will be carefully preparing our journey and plan to set sail in spring 2014. The core activities until then will be to initiate the relevant contacts to local entrepreneurship organizations in our focus regions (Winter 2014: Latin- and Central America; Summer 2015: Pacific Region; Summer 2016: Africa and Middle East), as well as raise the necessary funds to fully finance the endeavor. Any support from your end is greatly appreciated! In the next months, we'll be initiating a crowdfunding cause.
