We're happy to see great teams as the winners of the KAUST Seedfund Program. Congratulations to Rimantas from Envirola, Michael and Chris from iDivers, Steve and Adel from MuseTech, Georg and Jay from Nomadd.

Thuwal, Saudi Arabia – Four innovative projects have been named winners in the latest Seed Fund round at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). The awards are co-sponsored by Citibank.

The winners were announced at a Gala dinner at the Academic Campus, Thuwal on Wednesday March 14, 2012. They were on hand to discuss their individual products and innovations at the event.

The KAUST Seed Fund Program is a product development funding mechanism that can take promising ideas further toward commercialization, and ultimately lead to the formation of a new business. The Seed Fund is part of the New Ventures group. 

The Winners

Rimantas Kodzuis
Envirola: Rimantas Kodzius
A low-cost heavy metals detection instrument that provides an ease-of-use portable solution. The device has a wide range and a high degree of accuracy.  
Michael Berumen
iDivers: Michael Berumen
The first solution to enable full functionality of touchpad devices underwater.
Steven Cutchin
MuseTech: Steve Cutchin
A photo-real 3D immersive environment allowing museum visitors to feel as though they have been transported to a remote location.
Georg Eitelhuber
NOMADD: Georg Eitelhuber
The NO Water Mechanical Automated Dusting Device cleans desert-based solar installations cost effectively and in an environmentally responsible manner.

Congratulating the winners, University President, Professor Choon Fong Shih said: "Our Seed Fund Program is a vital component of KAUST's mission to catalyze Economic Development in the Kingdom – reflecting our founder King Abdullah's vision for KAUST."

"We know we have many talented scientists and engineers, and this program aims to spark their innate entrepreneurial flair. I congratulate all of the finalists."

Guests in attendance at the Gala dinner consisted of University staff, faculty, senior leadership, local business entrepreneurs and representatives from KAUST Industry Collaboration Program (KICP).
